The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“The best among you (Muslims) are those who learn the Qur’an and teach it.”
Now that we know how to be best, our next question should be how to learn the Quran and teach it to others.
Muslimun Institute has made it easy for you to learn the Quran, gain an Ijazah, and teach it to others. In short, be the best!
What is Ijazah?
An Ijazah is a license that is a formal certificate issued by an authorized Sheikh to a student who has memorized the whole Quran with proper Tajweed and mastered the authorized narrations. This certification shows that the student is now qualified to recite the Quran with a Sanad, which is a chain of Quran reciters that can be traced back to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Types of Ijazah
1. Ijazah for Memorization
An Ijazah is granted for memorizing the Holy Qur’an completely by heart, including Tajweed, using one or more of the common narrations from the ten Qira’at.
2. Ijazah for Recitation
An Ijazah is granted to individuals who have perfected the recitation of the Qur’an by reading directly from the Mushaf, beginning with Surah Al-Fatiha and ending with Surah An-Nas.
3. Ijazah for Tajweed
Individuals who have attained mastery in Tajweed are awarded an Ijazah, which has certain standards about the length of their course, the theoretical principles they’ve studied, and their practical application of recitation.
How to Gain Ijazah through the Ijazah Program?
There are 4+1 levels in this Program which leads you to the final goal of Ijazah in Quran memorization. Any student who already has proficiency in one of the levels can take a test. If he/she passes it without any mistake, then he/she becomes eligible to enroll directly in the next level.
We should always remember that gaining Ijazah is a bigger responsibility than it seems. Hence, it is important to be error-free and perfectly accurate.
The four levels are:
- Learning the basics of Arabic
- Learning Tajweed
- Learning Quran recitation (Qirat of your choice)
- Complete Quran memorization
Final: applying for the Ijazah Program!
What happens in this Final stage?
Students are required to recite the complete Quran in the presence of our highly skilled tutors. Students must understand both Quranic Tajweed and recitation rules. In the last phase, our esteemed tutors will conduct exams to decide whether students are eligible to get the Ijazah certificate or require further practice.
How much time will it take to gain Ijazah?
It depends on multiple factors including your knowledge and level. However, it is recommended to start it as early as you can so that even if you are at the basics, you can reach your goal.
Why you should gain an Ijazah
Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said:
“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
( Adh-Dhariyat 51: Verse 56)
Indeed, it is our goal to worship Allah. And imagine if we learn the Quran and gain the ability to recite it out of memory, and teach it to others? SubhanAllah! That can help us worship Allah and fulfill our duties in the best possible way.
Every Muslim takes great delight in being granted permission and feels a strong connection to the lineage of reciters, an unbroken path that finally leads to the Prophet of Allah.
It is a great way to gain rewards. As it is mentioned in Sahih Bukhari 4937:
The Prophet (PBUH) said:
“The likeness of the one who reads the Quran and memorizes it is that he is with the righteous and honorable scribes. The likeness of the one who reads it and tries hard to memorize it even though it is difficult for him, he will have two rewards.”
Other perks of gaining an Ijazah:
✓ Ability to teach others
✓ improving Salah
✓ Comfort in reciting the Quran out of memory
✓ Connecting with Allah in a beautiful way
